It’s the question I’ve been asked multiple times: “Do you dye her hair?”
It’s mostly directed towards Maggie, but people have asked about Asher, too.
It stops me. I verify, “dye Maggie’s hair?”
Multiple things run through my mind.
-First, the logistics. She’s 2!! There’s no way she’d sit still!!
-Next, I live in a city where people would pay for (and do pay for) just about anything to enhance or alter their appearance. But dye my kids hair?? That’s a crazy state of society, if you ask me. No, I’m not against it for adults, so no comments on that. I get my grays covered. (Side note: if you have a salon in Phoenix that use natural hair color that really works, please write me.)
-I’m a person in general who likes to BLEND IN. Like if I can be in a crowd or group and go unnoticed, all the better. Yet, God planned for me to have two beautiful redheads who get a TON of attention. That never would have been my plan.
-As a parent, I have much bigger fish to fry than wanting my child’s hair a certain color. (Talk to me again someday if they change it to blue or purple, or something like that.) Right??!! So many bigger parenting issues.
I had to laugh!!
And I’m not alone. Chatted with a sweet mama the other day- she has blonde hair, hubby has dark. Their two boys have a beautiful shade of auburn. And she’s often asked it she dyes their hair. They are both under age 10. Floors me!!!
So no, I do not dye my kiddo’s hair. And if you ask me, I just may “dye” laughing.
If you are a parent of a redhead, have you been asked this question as well?? Let’s laugh together.

When both of my kids were born with their deep red hair I was shocked to find out they would not be blending in with all the shades between blond to dark brown! How does blond and almost black make red?! And I don’t know if I will ever get used to the hair dye question – ever! LOL!
Love this blog!
Jess- thank you!! Not sure how I missed your comment. I get it- not sure I’ll ever be used to the question. Ha!! Love our red headed kiddos!!
