The Dahl kids just finished their second week of school! Things are going well in 4th and 2nd grade for Ash and Mags. Yet has anyone else experienced tired (and somewhat whiney) kids while adjusting to being back at school? No, just me?
All that aside, what better way to celebrate than ice cream. Or specifically gelato. We have a favorite local gelato place we love.
And this leads me to a parenting tip that I just have to share: afternoon dessert.
It’s one of the best things we’ve done; or ideas we‘ve had. (A close second is putting towel hooks in bathrooms. No more folding for a towel bar. Makes life easier for everyone.) But seriously afternoon desserts are where it’s at. My kids do not do well going to sleep all jacked up on sugar. Who does, really? We don’t have dessert all the time, but enjoying an afternoon treat before dinner (gasp) is the way to go. And amazingly enough, the kids still eat dinner. A win-win if you ask me.
The sugar is worn off before bedtime, and voila, you are parent of the year.
Let me know if you’ve tried dessert in the afternoon, and what you think.
And prayers for you and your kids as a new school year begins.
