More Than a Bunny

Life is so busy. Do you feel that way, too??? Maybe it’s more certain times of year, but this is definitely one of them at the Dahl house.  The little redheads and I are here, there and everywhere- much of it connected to holiday fun.

I love holidays.  Asher does, too, now. I love decorating, and special treats, and traditions.  Even making new traditions.  Yet for certain holidays especially, in all the busyness and fun, I don’t want their true meaning to be missed.

Easter is one of these holidays.  I want my kids (and us adults, too) to enjoy all of the fun and festivities- like really enjoy it!! Yet, my husband and I want to be intentional about making sure our kids understand (age appropriately) why we celebrate Easter.  We believe that Jesus died on the cross.  He did this as a payment for our sins; 3 days later he rose and lives today in Heaven!! And when we ask him into our hearts, we are reconciled with God and our sins are washed clean.

Cute baby animals and eggs can represent new life- new life that we humans can have through Jesus.  Or maybe that’s a stretch, I don’t know.  Other “Hallmark” or popular traditional stuff can be hard to connect.  So maybe it’s just fun, but I want my kids to know as they get older that those things don’t really define Easter.

Have fun.  Dye things and find things and eat marshmallows covered in sugar.  Have family gatherings and laugh- a lot!! And I’d challenge you to go to church and talk about the reason we celebrate Easter.  It’s really the basis of all Christianity.  And understanding it can eternally change your life.  It’s about a lot more than a bunny.
